    How to read the forecast

For each day you get the main weather (sun, clouds, showers…), the low and high temperature, the expected rainfall and the strongest wind. The colored bar places the day's temperatures on the scale of the whole period: the further right, the warmer.

The first 10 days come from the forecast model of the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway), which covers the whole world and is updated several times a day. The first two or three days are the most accurate; reliability then decreases gradually.

Are 15-day and 30-day forecasts reliable?

Not for a specific day. The atmosphere is chaotic: beyond about 10 days, no model can tell whether it will rain on Tuesday rather than Wednesday. That is true for every weather site, including those that show "30 days".

Instead of making up a forecast, for those days we show the outlook: the normal temperatures for that place and date and the chance of rain, based on the last 10 years. That is the most useful information for planning a trip or an event ahead of time; come back a few days before for the real forecast.

Check the weather on a past date

The "Past weather" section gives the temperatures and rainfall recorded on any date since 1981: handy to check the weather on a travel day, for an insurance claim or for an event. You also see how it compared with normal and the same day in previous years.

    Frequently asked questions

Where does the weather data come from?

Forecasts come from MET Norway (CC BY 4.0 license), history and averages from NASA's POWER project, and place search from OpenStreetMap. Your browser queries these services directly: we don't store anything.

What is the difference between a forecast and an outlook?

A forecast computes the expected weather on a given day from the current state of the atmosphere. An outlook tells you what is typical on that date, based on past records. Beyond 10 days, an outlook is more honest than a fake forecast.

Why does past weather stop a few days before today?

NASA consolidates the measurements a few days late. For today and tomorrow, use the forecast at the top of the page.

Can I switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius?

Yes: the °F / °C button switches all temperatures, rainfall (inches or mm) and wind (mph or km/h). Your choice is remembered.

How do I get the weather for my town?

Type its name (add the state or country if there are several places with that name) and press "Get weather", or use "My location". You can then share the page address: it keeps the place you picked.
