How to use the currency converter
Enter an amount, pick the currency you have and the currency you want: the result updates instantly, with the rate both ways and a table of common amounts. The ⇄ button swaps the two currencies. The page address keeps your conversion, so you can bookmark or share it.
Where do the exchange rates come from?
Rates are reference rates published every business day by central banks, including the European Central Bank for the euro. They are mid-market rates, with no markup. On weekends and holidays the last published rate is shown, and the rate date is displayed under the result.
Why does my bank give a different amount?
Banks, card networks and exchange offices use a less favorable rate than the mid-market rate, and may add a flat fee or a percentage per transaction. Card payments abroad often cost 1% to 3% more. Compare the amount shown here with the one you are offered to see the real cost of the exchange.
Frequently asked questions
Are the rates updated in real time?
No. Reference rates are published once per business day. They are accurate enough for travel budgets, invoices and online shopping, but not for minute-by-minute trading.
What is the mid-market rate?
It is the midpoint between the buy and sell prices of a currency on the market. It is the fairest benchmark, but consumers rarely get it: banks add a margin on top.
Can I convert to currencies that are pegged to the euro or the dollar?
Yes. For currencies with an official fixed parity to the euro, such as the CFA franc (1 EUR = 655.957 XOF/XAF), the converter uses the official rate.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. The calculation runs in your browser; only the list of today's rates is downloaded.
